Why I dislike Lil Wayne..

On Thursday, Jul. 03, 2008 ‘TIME Magazine’ published an article by Josh Tyrangiel ‘Lil Wayne: the Best Rapper Alive’.

The article goes on to read…

“Whether Wayne is, as he claims, the “best rapper alive” is no longer even debated in hip-hop or commercial circles. Since June 10, when his latest album, Tha Carter III, sold 1,005,545 copies in its first week, he’s been the undisputed champ.”

Now on July 23, 2008 a web site called www.hollyscoop.com posts a blog stating that …”TIME magazine has voted Lil Wayne the best rapper alive. Did we miss something?”.

hollyscoop.com claimed Lil Wayne had been “Voted” ‘The Best Rapper Alive’ by ‘TIME Magazine’. referring to their source for this as being another celebrity blog site called www.bossip.com (http://bossip.com/21525/best-rapper-alive/).

What Bossip.com actualy writes is…”Time Magazine argues that Lil Wayne is the cream of the crop……True, this cat’s sales may be off the charts, but they took it to the next level with this shyte. Best rapper alive? Whateva”

Bossip.com source back to the Original ‘TIME Magazine’ article.

No where (other than hollyscoop.com) does it say Lil Wayne has been “voted” ‘The Best Rapper Alive.’

The truth is that Lil Wayne proclaimed himself the “best rapper alive” in 2005 on his album ‘Tha Carter II’. Fair enough, Wayne is an example of great marketing . Ive heard sales consultants say, ‘if you repeat the same thing enough times and loud enough, your audience will believe its true’ and maybe it is true.

As ‘TIME’ states …”Tha Carter III, sold 1,005,545 copies in its first week…..That number would be huge in boom times, but at a moment when most records languish on the racks like Depression apples, it’s titanic. It also represents the victory of a business model every bit as counter-intuitive as Radiohead’s.” and that’s what Wayne is, a flex of corporate muscle and an example of great marketing.

To clear up any argument over whether Wayne writes his own material, the evidence is public record for those botherd to look. If you take for example the hit ‘Got Money’ it’s performed by Lil Wayne featuring T-Pain but co-written by Juan “Play” Salinas and Oscar “Skillz” Salinas.

["Got Money" by Lil Wayne featuring T-Pain (co-written by Juan "Play" Salinas, Oscar "Skillz" Salinas).]

‘Play-N-Skillz’ are a production duo from Dallas, Texas, consisting of brothers Juan “Play” Salinas and Oscar “Skillz” Salinas, who are also rappers. They won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group in 2007 for their production on the single “Ridin’” by Chamillionaire, and won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album for Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III (2008)

Another hit Amille in which Wayne states “I don’t write shit cuz I aint got time” is again Performed by Mr Carter but sees the publishing go to ‘EMI’ and Shondrae “Bangladesh” Crawford a producer and DJ who was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, and now lives in Atlanta, Georgia.

[A Milli - co-written by EMI Music Publishing's, Shondrae "Bangladesh" Crawford (performed by Lil Wayne)]

The reality of the pop world is that artists by and large don’t write their own music and the best singer alive would never be expected to also be the best songwriter, but the best rapper alive should write his own lyrics at least. Lil Wayne could be the best performer alive or the best personality. But not best rapper.

In closing: A lot of people call it ‘hating’ to dislike anyone that is in a better position than you, but it’s not Little Wayne I dislike as much as it’s his fans. Wayne is one wack mc, his fans are the ones who buy in to the corporate conspiracy that supports the control of what you hear, what you see and when staying firmly in the hands of the corporations. Lil Wayne’s advertising campaign had the audacity to state “The Revolution is Here” but what kind of revolutionary can an artist be who’s work is written and commissioned by those in power.

I vote power to the people, I vote power to independent music made by real artists and I vote power to the truth. Fuck Lil Wayne.
